Community Food Centres Canada
Numerous Evaluation, Strategy & Research Projects
In her role as Research and Evaluation Manager, Meredith designed and implemented a national evaluation strategy and accompanying tools for multiple community food centres across Canada to allow for effective measurement of shared outcomes such as increased access to healthy food, social inclusion and civic engagement, and strengthening of impact through process evaluation. Capacity building and training in evaluation with the wider food security sector was a valued component of her work at CFCC. Meredith helped to facilitate CFCC’s most recent strategic planning process and we are currently working with the organization on an environmental scan. Find three programmatic theory of change summaries that Meredith developed in partnership with CFCC’s Director of Communications and a graphic design firm here.
You definitely want Meredith Davis on your team. She has a knack for getting to the heart of your challenge or ambition in a hurry. Meredith is a great listener, researcher, facilitator and strategist who always keeps your context in mind — budget, landscape, opportunities. I can’t recommend her skills and professionalism enough.

Provided a comprehensive suite of process and impact evaluation supports to a community engaged theatre and oral history project called The Tale of a Town - Canada, including:
- Indicator selection
- Program logic model development
- Articulation of theories of change
- Development, administration and analysis of various program evaluation tools
We worked with a designer to communicate the results in a visually interesting manner. Read an annual evaluation report here.
Meredith is a thorough, patient and extremely knowledgeable evaluation consultant. For my company, Meredith took the time to get to know us and what we were all about, then crafted an evaluation plan that fit our objectives and worked within our company structure. Throughout the process Meredith was there to guide us and keep us on track. She would always deliver on the materials and information needed on time, and her expertise in combination with her clarity resulted in an evaluation that was everything we needed it to be. I would recommend Good Roots Consulting to anyone who is looking to formalize their impact into an impressive platform for presentation.

Blue Sky Strategic Planning Session
Designed and facilitated a strategic planning session for board members and other relevant stakeholders of the Toronto-based organization Word-Play, which aims to foster a love of reading and writing among elementary-school children. Results included:
- Identification of organizational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
- Definition of strategic priorities for the subsequent five years
- Drafting of key action items
After more than a decade supporting kids in our neighbourhood, our small non-profit had never done a visioning exercise. Meredith Davis ably guided us through a strategic planning session and made the entire process not only easy but a ton of fun. Her wise counsel started long before the session, supporting our board to gather information from stakeholders and create an engaging agenda. With our specific needs and challenges top of mind, Meredith got us involved in creative activities to articulate shared goals and—importantly—ways to make them reality. We have emerged from the process more energized than ever, as well as motivated to build a stronger, more effective organization.

Eden Food For Change
Mississauga, 2015 - 2017
Led a participatory evaluation process for a community food security organization offering a range of programming including a food bank, community kitchens and a fresh produce box program.
We created program logic models and designed, implemented and analyzed data collection tools, including in-person interviews with 100 + program participants and donor and volunteer surveys.
We were doing well as an organization but we had reached a plateau because we didn't have sufficient evaluative tools and resources to help us properly celebrate our successes and learn from our mistakes. We needed help with our evaluation methodology. With both her skills and passion for evaluation, Meredith was just the person we needed. She reviewed our current strategy, developed a new evaluative framework improving our existing evaluative tools and added new methods to help us get the data we wanted. She also helped with reporting our results more effectively so we were better able to share our story with the community. The best thing about Meredith is that she didn't just do the work but she took the time to show us how it was done so that we could do it for ourselves moving forward.
